Stephen Whitty saw his first movie, “Pinocchio,” when he was three, and cried until his mother promised to bring him back that night. She did not, and he has remained an inveterate film lover, and distrustful reporter, ever since. A critic and lecturer for over 25 years, he has written on topics from American movie vigilantism to Martin Scorsese’s Catholicism, profiled artists from Steven Spielberg to Peter O’Toole, and seen more movies than he’d care to remember (and some he’d like to forget). He always sits in the front row, and his favorite film is whatever’s coming up next.
